In a distant galaxy, there lived a not-so-bright star. Surrounded by other stars, it had no way of communicating with them, for stars communicate through light, and this star’s light grew dimmer each day.
It couldn’t remember how it ended up there. The only memory it had was of its grandmother, one of the three daughters of the Moon, who had whispered to it before departing for an even more distant star kingdom:
“Do not let loneliness diminish your shine.”
It didn’t understand.
Only after many light years did it come to grasp that message.
It couldn’t shine solely for itself. For a long time, it watched a little girl from its remote galaxy. It wanted to reach out to her, but stars cannot speak, and children on Earth often forget that they can communicate with the stars because they descended to Earth.
When the star directed its light, despite the distance, toward the equally lonely girl, its light became stronger, and the feeling of loneliness grew weaker.
For one cannot shine and be lonely at the same time. One always shines for someone or through someone. Love travels through light; it alone resonates with the wavelength of the soul.
The star sent her everything it could:
Dreams.
Songs.
Stories.
It illuminated a path that no one could see, a path no one had ever walked, and thus, there were no footprints on it.
The girl grew up. Almost every morning she woke up with stardust in her hair. She didn’t know if anyone else had a star for a friend. She didn’t mind that (un)knowing.
One morning, she heard an unusual sound.
Nothing on Earth resembled it.
It was the primal sound of the starry rhythm.
This sound resonated through her bones.
Her skeleton was filled with cosmic dust.
The girl fainted.
The next thing she remembered was a boy offering her a spoonful of honey and a glass of water.
In his eyes, she recognized the shine that had accompanied her throughout her life. Looking at her hands and realizing they were wrinkled, a sharp thought struck her like a lightning bolt—this caring little boy was her grandson.
She had been sleeping or dreaming awake for a long time.
Now, she was ready to meet her star and bring it the only valuable earthly gift – the glow of love.
